Lauren Ryan (Cl’16)

Lauren secured her place at the Paris 2024 Olympics last month, setting a new Australian 10,000m record at The TEN event in California on March 16. Lauren’s time of 30:35.66, breaking the Australian record set by Benita Willis 20 years ago, shaved an incredible 94 seconds off her previous personal best time. Lauren will compete in the 5,000m event at the Australian Athletics Championships in Adelaide next week, while Mia Gross (Fr’19) will compete in the 100m and 200m events as she looks to punch her ticket for the Paris Games, either in the individual events or the 4x100m relay team.

Bentley Niquet-Olden (Cu’16)

Bentley won his first race as a professional cyclist, taking out stage 3 of the UCI-accredited Tour de Taiwan in March 2024. Bentley took out the 154.3km stage from Xinpu to Shigang in a sprint finish; the highlight of a young career which has come a long way since this time last year. “What a difference a year makes!” Bentley posted on social media. “This stage last year I finished dead last and only a few seconds inside the time cut. This year played out completely differently and I won my first pro race! It really makes all the hard years and long hours worthwhile.”

Zara Walters (EM’21)

Zara earned a spot on the Melbourne Vixens roster ahead of the 2024 Super Netball season, joining Emily Mannix (Fr’12) and Ruby Barkmeyer (Ga’18, training partner) in the squad. “Zara’s appetite for learning and growth is a credit to her, I’ve been really impressed with her efforts in our pathway programs over the past few years and I think she’s a great fit for our group,” Vixens Head Coach Simone McKinnis said. “I can’t wait to make the most of this opportunity and am looking forward to a successful year with the Vixens,” Zara said. Emily, entering her tenth season with the Vixens, has been named vice captain for the 2024 season, which begins on April 14. Allie Smith (A'17) is set to commence her third season with the reigning premier NSW Swifts, looking to bounce back from an injury-interrupted season in 2023.
