Over Easter, three Old Geelong Grammarians competed in the 143rd running of the Stawell Gift – Australia's richest footrace.

Olympian Mia Gross (Fr'19) ran as the back marker in the Women's 400m, before helping Australia secure second place in Qualifying Round 2 of the 4x400m relay at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou in May, earning a spot at the 2025 World Athletics Championships to be held in Tokyo later this year. Hamish Baylis (M'14) claimed two third-place finishes in the Open 1600m and Herb Hedemann Invitational 1600m, and Charlie Sutherland (P'86) showed timeless form, finishing 3rd in the front markers' 1600m and 5th in the Open 800m.

Marta Dusseldorp (Cl'90)

Following the success of the first season, award winning actor, Marta, once again leads the cast as Stella Heikkinen in the second season of Bay of Fires. Premiering on ABC and ABC iView on Sunday 15 June, Marta also serves as co-creator and producer of this series set in a small Tasmanian town. Season two picks up with Stella as the boss of Mystery Bay while also juggling solo parenting and keeping her criminal overlords at bay. And while things are looking up, such joys are short lived in this darkly comedic, crime drama. Season one of Bay of Fires is streaming on ABC iView.

Charlie Vickers-Willis (FB'10)

Charlie
stars in the latest adaptation of a novel by bestselling Melbourne author, Jane Harper. The Survivors, Jane's fourth book, is set and filmed in Tasmania and features Charlie in the lead role of Kieran Elliot. This limited series, released on Sunday 6 June and currently number three on the Australian Netflix charts, follows the mysterious death of a young woman, which dredges up a tragedy from 15 years earlier—the loss of three young people that ultimately tore a town apart. Charlie can also be found on Prime Video as Sauron in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Lily Delves (Cl'21)

Growing up on an irrigation farm in a rural community helped shape Lily, instilling in her a strong connection to the land and an early awareness of the challenges facing regional Australia. Since moving to Canberra to study at the Australian National University (ANU), Lily has gained a broader perspective on global issues and how she can contribute to meaningful solutions, particularly those related to climate. Currently in her fourth year of a Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science, Lily has recently been awarded the Skip Foundation Kim Jackson Scholarship. This scholarship supports women from non-metropolitan areas enrolled at the ANU in a Bachelor of Engineering for the duration of their undergraduate degree, providing $25,000 per annum for up to five years. Women currently represent just 16% of university graduates and around 13% of the engineering workforce, despite the sector being the largest employer of all STEM professions. This scholarship will ensure that Lily can pursue studies that will support a career combining agriculture, engineering and the environment – we can't wait to see what's next for Lily!

Ollie Peake (A'24)

Ollie
continues to make an impression on the Australian cricket selectors. On 2 June, Ollie was named in the Australia A squad to face Sri Lanka A in three 50-over matches and two four-day matches between 4-23 July in Darwin. Earlier this year, Ollie travelled on a Test tour of Sri Lanka as a development player and in March, made his first-class debut at the WACA, top scoring for Victoria with 52 runs. Despite his busy schedule, Ollie was spotted at Geelong College with a group of 2024 OGGs supporting the GGS teams on Derby Day in May. If you're in the Northern Territory in July, be sure to reciprocate by supporting Ollie!
