Change of OGG President
Thursday, 24 March 2022

Andrew Burgess (FB'81) was elected OGG President on Tuesday 22 March following the retirement of Ian Coltman (A'77) who held the role for the past three years.

Andrew, who joined the OGG committee in 2018, is the Business Development Manager at Cobram Estate Olives. During his time on the OGG committee he has been a strong supporter and organiser of the OGG Business Lunches which were established by Nina Anderson (Thomas Cl’93) in 2012.

Andrew has strong connections to Geelong Grammar School dating back to when his great uncle, James Catanach (P'38) attended. Andrew's father Reece (FB'56), siblings Matthew (FB'82), Simon (FB'84). and Edwina (Ga'88) and children Ella (Cl'15) and Zoe (Cl'17) are all OGGs.

We welcome Andrew as the new President of the Old Geelong Grammarians and wish him well in this role.

Ian, who had been a member of the OGG Committee since 2014, has a background in corporate law. During his time on the committee he conducted a full review of the Rules of Incorporation of the OGG Association and at the 2016 AGM proposed a Special Resolution to adopt changes to the Rules to bring them in line with Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 (new Act) and any modification or replacement of it, as some of the wording in the Rules pertained to the ‘old’ Act of 1981. He also made necessary changes and improvements to governance within the OGG committee.

Ian was also involved in numerous projects during his time on the committee including the OGGA membership survey of 2017 and following the results of that survey, he oversaw projects such as the Online Mentoring Programme and later, the development of the new OGG website.

Ian was also responsible for formalising the guidelines for the appointment of Fellows of the Old Geelong Grammarians Association. To date, OGG Fellowships have been awarded to: James Affleck OAM (Cu’67), Jo Breadmore (FB’55), the late Michael Collins Persse MVO OAM, the late Dr John Court AM (Cu’47), Frank Covill, John Fairfax AO (M’60), the late John Landy AC CVO MBE (M’48), Peter Lemon, Garth Manton, John McInnes OAM (Cu’58), the late Dame Elisabeth Murdoch AC DBE (Green, Clyde ’26) and Boz Parsons DFC (M’36).

More recently, Ian has worked with the Old Geelong Sporting Club ensuring the Old Geelong Grammarians Association support of the Club into the future.

We thank Ian for his service as President.
