Queen's Birthday Honours

Congratulations to all of the Old Geelong Grammarians, as well as current and past parents, who were recognised in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours List.



The Honourable Edvard (William) Alstergren QC (M'78) was awarded Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For distinguished service to the judiciary and to the law, and to sport as an administrator, coach and athlete.' William is the Chief Justice of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and is also Chief Judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. 



Jeremy Cox (Cu'89) was awarded the Public Service Medal (PSM) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For outstanding public service to the people of New South Wales.' 



Joe Crosbie (FB’61) was awarded Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For service to the community of Geelong.' Joe is the current Treasurer of the Geelong Hockey Association (GHA) and has held a variety of roles with the GHA through the years. Lifeline has been a major focus for Joe for many years. He has recently been honoured by Lifeline Geelong and South West Victoria, with the new Lifeline crisis support centre callroom named after him.



Peter Heysen (C’57) was awarded an AM in the Queen’s Birthday Honours - “For significant service to general medicine, and to the community”. 



Dr Jonathan King (M'60) was awarded Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For service to community history.' Jonathan is the author of approximately 30 books, including, most recently, Palestine Diaries: The Light Horseman’s own story, battle by battle (Scribe) in 2017. 



Garry Spry (FB'57) awarded Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For service to the community of Queenscliffe.' Garry served in local government on the Borough of Queenscliffe council from 1974 to 1980, and was the Member for Bellarine from 1992 to 2020. He said he was shocked when he received the nomination. “I was very surprised but I feel honoured,” Garry said. 



Mr Rory Treweeke (P’60) awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For significant service to the rural community of New South Wales.' Rory, who has owned Angledool Station near the NSW/Qld border for more than 40 years, has held many industry roles including serving as a former chair of the Murray-Darling Basin Community Committee, the Lower Balonne Floodplain Association, and the Western Catchment Management Authority and as a Member, Great Artesian Basin Advisory Group.

Mr Ian James COVER (past parent) awarded Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For service to the community through a range of roles.' 

Mrs Maureen Louise HICKMAN (past parent) awarded Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For service to the community of the Australian Capital Territory.' 

The late Mr David John LECKIE (past parent) awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For significant service to the broadcast media through executive roles.' 

Mr Brenton Justin MAURIELLO (current parent) awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For significant service to Australia-ASEAN and Australia-Thailand business relations.' 

Mr Bradley John TEAL (past parent) awarded Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in The Queen's Birthday 2022 Honours List - 'For service to sport, and to the community.'
